Rusanna is 3 years old. She is very sociable. We had a nice meeting with her. The child likes to chat and answer questions. She was happy to be photographed. Rusanna lives in the village of Martuni. She is already registered with the kindergarten and is waiting for it to open. Because of the corona pandemic, the kindergarten has been closed for a long time. Now Rusanna is waiting impatiently for the summer to eat ice cream. She would like to become a big girl in the future so that she can bake bread and cakes, she told us during the interview.
The village of Martuni is located in the northeastern district of Gegharkunik, about 130 km from the capital Yerevan. It takes about 1.5 hours by car to reach the village from Yerevan. There are very few jobs in the village. If you can get a job at all, the salaries are very low. Most of the inhabitants live from agriculture and animal husbandry. The climate is harsh, which is why not many types of vegetables can be grown, except for example potatoes, beans, carrots and the like. Rusanna comes from a large family. She is named after her grandmother, Rusanna. The family consists of the parents, the grandparents and the uncle’s family. The mother is a housewife. The father is a driver in the barracks. During the Artsakh war, too, he delivered food and medicine every day. He gets a modest salary. He can use it to buy groceries, but not always everything his family needs. Gifts, renovations, new clothes, etc. are a luxury. You rarely think of that. Grandma Rusanna is also a housewife. The grandpa is a cattle breeder. He has 2 cows. He also plants potatoes and helps the family earn a living. The uncle’s family also lives with them. So it’s a big family who tries everything to live a decent life, but they also have several needs at the moment. So the family got in touch with our aid organization.
Diaconia Charitable Fund has been working in the Gegharkunik district for several years, helping families like Rusanna’s. We would also like to include Rusanna in our sponsorship program. A sponsored child receives support every month. This support consists of an extensive monthly grocery package so that the family does not go hungry. If necessary, a sponsored child can also receive medical and dental help. A sponsorship would enable Rusanna to have a more carefree childhood and improve the general quality of life of her family. Please help us. We hope for your valuable support!
If you would like to sponsor Rusanna, please let us know via e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
